Glen Roy Wallen

Glen Roy Wallen, a lifelong Moscow resident, died Monday, May 20, 2019, at his home. He was 83.

Glen was born Sept. 2, 1935, in Moscow, to Wallace W. and Flora E. Fisher Wallen. He grew up on the homestead east of Moscow and attended Moscow schools. Glen worked on the homestead and later drove school bus. It was while he was driving that he met Donna Mae Morton. They were married at the Presbyterian Church in Moscow Sept. 8, 1956.

They lived south of Moscow before moving to Wallen Road, where they farmed. Glen also worked for the Latah County Highway District, where he drove heavy equipment. In the winter plowing snow, he was often the first one to break trail on the rural roads of Latah County. For many years Glen had his own custom mowing and snowplowing business, and also sold Watkins products in addition to his full-time jobs. He returned to farming full time in the 1970s and was a partner in the North Idaho Cowboy Bar in Troy in the ’80s.

Glen then went to work for the city of Moscow street, and later water, departments. Glen also drove the mail truck to the post offices in Troy, Deary and Elk River and back. He enjoyed spending time in Elk River and later bought a cabin there.

Over the years, Glen was active in the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and enjoyed hunting camp with friends and family, and huckleberry picking. Many family gatherings were held at the log house the family built on Wallen Road, and everyone enjoyed Glen’s huckleberry pies and the homemade rolls he would make from his mother’s recipes.

Glen was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Mae, in 2016; a son, Wesley, in 2014; a grandson, Adam Glen Roy, and a daughter, Jeanette Wallen Rose, just this past April.

He is survived by his sons, Neal (Tammy) Wallen and Gordon (Sue) Wallen, all of Moscow; daughters Glenda (Dennis) Deputy of Paradise Valley, Nev., Lorraine Mallett of Boise and Roxane (Randy) Fredrickson of Troy. He also leaves 22 grandchildren and 31 (and one on the way) great-grandchildren; as well as his brother, Marvin Wallen of Moscow; and many cousins.

The memorial service and celebration of Glen’s life will be at 10:30 a.m. June 15 at the First Presbyterian Church in Moscow. A covered-dish lunch will follow in the church fellowship hall.

Glen will be laid to rest with Donna Mae in a private ceremony at the Moscow Cemetery.

The family suggests that memorials be made to the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation or to the Elk River Fireworks Fund.
