George Joseph Hasenoehrl passed away at the age of 91 at his winter home in Yuma, Ariz., on Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2024. He was born to George and Magdalene Hasenoehrl on Aug. 24, 1932.

One of 11 children, George grew up on Mission Creek and graduated from high school in Lapwai.

After graduation, George joined the U.S. Coast Guard, in 1951-54. He then met Nina Mae Harrison and they married in 1955. They had four children, three daughters: Diane (Mike) Czmowski, Cindee Green and Judy (Randy) Davenport and a son Bryan (Nancy) Hasenoehrl.

George was a contract builder and built many of the homes in the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley, along with farming on Lapwai Road, where he built his homestead.

In 1965, George received his pilot’s license and later bought a plane that he and Nina flew all over the country; that was his passion. George then bought a yacht and took it from Chief Timothy all the way to Alaska and back.
