Emmett Chester (Lum) Martin, 90, died Saturday, June 19, 2010, of causes related to age. He was born in Straw, Mont., Jan. 18, 1920, to Homer Martin and Dorcas Wilson Shelby. He grew up in Lancaster, Ind., until age 15. The family then moved to Lewiston, where he attended high school, excelling in baseball and basketball and graduating in 1939.
Emmett was involved in various occupations throughout his lifetime.
He married Eileen Clarke in 1955 and enjoyed sports, traveling and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings Lina Shelby Edwards, Everett Shelby, Edna Martin Miller and Ruby Martin McManus.
Surviving are his wife Eileen; and three sons, Brian and Lisa, Bruce and Sue, and Brad and Jo Martin, all of Lewiston; also eight grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and sister Genevieve Martin Hylton of San Jose, Calif.
A graveside service is planned for 3 p.m. Friday at Lewis-Clark Memorial Gardens Cemetery for family and friends.
