Donald John Light passed away Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009, at his Lewiston residence.
Donald was born June 15, 1929, at Peoria, Ill., to John Henry Light (born April 16, 1910, and died March 1, 1982) and Bertie Leona Rose (born Sept. 15, 1911, and died Oct. 5, 2004). His siblings are Nancy Light Jones, who resides with her husband Bob in Missouri, Patricia Light Given and her husband Jeffrey of Texas, and Jeanie Light Panoke, also of Texas.
Donald graduated from Twin Falls High School and was employed in civil engineering and was a highly skilled land surveyor. Most of his career was devoted to commercial, heavy highway and dam construction projects in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, Utah and Wyoming.
He was an avid fisherman and hunter who loved the mountains and the outdoors, especially with his well-loved golden retriever Kate.
He is survived by five children, 31 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. The children and grandchildren of Donald John Light and his previous spouse, JoAnn Myrtle Anderson, who resides in Chandler, Ariz., are: son John William Light and his wife Gayle, who reside in Anchorage, Alaska; their five children, who also reside in Anchorage, are Ruth Light Smith, Paul Light, Jacob Light, Martin Light and Gordon Light. Great-grandchildren include the children of Dellon and Ruth Light Smith: Trevor, Brandon, Adam and Troy Smith; and the children of Jacob and Molley Light: Jamie and Jacob Light Jr. Son, Martin Donald Light and his wife Lynda, also of Anchorage; their children:
Teancum, Jesse Light Moon, Josiah, Daniel, Asenath, Isaac, Levi and Ephraim Light; and a great-grandchild, Jocelyn Moon, the daughter of Courtney and Jesse Light Moon. Son, Dr. Peter James Light and his wife Marie of Billings, Mont., and their 12 children: Caleb, Joshua, Jonathan, Aaron, Timothy, Mathew, Rachel, Elizabeth, Anna, Rebecca, Leah and Daniel Donald Light. Son, Mathew David Light and his wife Paula Light of San Jose, Calif. Daughter, Heidi Elizabeth Michelle Light Holeman and spouse Devon Holeman, who reside in Gilbert, Ariz., with their six children: Benjamin, Gavin, Summer, Hailey, Hannah and Calista Holeman.
Friends and family are invited to attend the funeral service at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3810 16th St., in Lewiston. Bishop Nathan Palmer will officiate, and family members will serve as pallbearers. A family prayer and viewing will precede the service at noon at the church.
