David (Dave) Allen Baldwin

David A. (Dave) Baldwin, 69, a resident of Colfax and formerly of Potlatch, passed away early Friday morning Nov. 18, 2011, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston.

David grew up in a family of 12 children. His ethics centered on strong family values, hard work and friendship. David was always a hard worker and a positive role model. He was a wonderful husband and father for the last 48 years. He was dedicated to his family and friends. His home was always open. David's siblings have said that he inherited his mother's gentle spirit and nature.

David was an avid hunter and fisherman until his health slowed him down. He was a man who was never idle. In Dave's younger years he had many hound dogs. He spent his free hours in the woods hunting or along the water fishing. While at home Dave always had a large garden to tend and multiple farm animals to take care of.

He married Kathy Newby Nov. 23, 1963, at Grangeville and the couple made their home in Grangeville. Kathy and Dave's marriage and family values have become the legacy for which their children have strived to model and pass to all those around them. Dave the husband, father and best friend will be sorely missed. His family will be forever grateful for the love and example that he always gave.

David worked as a saw filer for local sawmills and they lived in many communities including Elk City; Superior, Mont.; St. Anthony, Idaho; and Salmon, Idaho. The couple moved to Potlatch in 1980, where they raised their family and made their home since.

David was married to Kathy Baldwin for the last 48 years. They have four children: Helen Miriam Baldwin, Margeret Ellen Horn and husband Guy Allen Horn, Tonya Denise DeYoung and husband William Douglas DeYoung, and Ronda Sue Backlin and husband Bradley John Backlin.
