OROFINO Charles W. Musiel, a retired real estate agent and employee of the Dworshak National Fish Hatchery at Ahsahka, died of a heart attack Friday at Clearwater Valley Hospital at Orofino. He was 75.
He was born Oct. 20, 1918, at Stites to Walter J. and Katherine Sanger Musiel.
He was raised at Stites and graduated from high school there in 1941. He then attended Lewiston Normal School (now Lewis-Clark State College) and graduated in 1943. He taught school at Fix Ridge in Juliaetta then married Maxine Bryant at Orofino Feb. 11, 1944.
He taught school at Orofino for seven years, then moved with his family to Coeur d'Alene, where they owned and operated a motel for several years.
The family moved back to Orofino and he went into partnership with Buzz Pruitt, operating the B & C Market. He then owned and operated Chuck's Cleaners, a dry cleaner and laundromat, before selling the business in 1972.
He worked at the Orofino Golf Course, sold real estate and also worked at Dowrshak until retiring in 1980.
He enjoyed gardening, golfing, woodworking and traveling with his wife.
He was baptised in the Little Flower Catholic Church at Orofino and was an early member and twice past president of the Orofino Lions Club. He was also a former member of the Lewiston Elks Lodge, a charter member and first president of the Orofino Maniac Booster Club and served on the Orofino City Council in the late 1950s.
In the 1960s, he served two terms on the District No. 171 School Board at Orofino.
Survivors include his wife of Orofino; three sons, Joe Musiel of Clarkston, Tim Musiel of Troy and Bert Musiel of Deary; a brother, Max Musiel of Cottage Grove, Ore.; and two sisters, Margaret Rydberg and Florace Weston, both of Seattle.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Pine Hills Funeral Chapel at Orofino.
