Caryl Lee Davis Mackey, of Lewiston, went to her Heavenly home unexpectedly due to natural causes Monday, Oct. 9, 2023, at Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur d’Alene. She was 78 years old.

Caryl was born Jan. 10, 1945, to Gladys Favager Davis and Willard W. Davis in Steubenville, Ohio. As the child of a career serviceman, she lived in occupied Germany and the United Kingdom (her mother’s birthplace) before returning to the United States and eventually spending her formative years in southern Idaho and graduating from Boise High School in 1963.

Following graduation, she studied nursing at Boise Junior College briefly and married her high school sweetheart, Rick Jurries, in 1964. Together they welcomed two children, Jodi Lynn and Brett Stevan. They divorced four years later.

In 1968, she relocated to the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley with her children, where Caryl later met Jack Kime. They were married from 1973-83 and welcomed one child, Stormi Dawn.

Caryl was a proud homemaker who enjoyed keeping a meticulous home with a yard full of flowers during this time. She loved summers on the river with her family, boating and rafting.

In 1983, Caryl began working at the State of Idaho Mental Health Services as the office manager, or as she preferred, “Mental Health Goddess.” Caryl’s unparalleled organizational skills, impeccable work ethic and dedication made this a true career. While here she developed many lifetime friends. After 26 years of service, she retired in 2009.

As a single mother, Caryl was hard-working yet ever-present at her children’s activities in the gymnasium at Jodi’s drill team competitions or cheer activities and in the bleachers watching Brett and Stormi at their sporting events.

Cupid found Caryl one last time (with a little help from her mother’s introduction) when she met Thomas J. Mackey. They were married for 14 years from 1991 until Tom’s death in 2015. Together they enjoyed the outdoors including a cross-country camping trip with a few of their beloved pets who enriched their lives for years. Following Tom’s passing, Caryl’s faithful shadow Petey, a Jack Russell terrier, kept her company for eight more years.

In her retirement, she enjoyed participation in the AR Chapter of P.E.O. where she held various offices up to the time of her passing. Another place Caryl could often be found was at the Episcopal Church of the Nativity. Deeply rooted in her faith, Caryl proudly served the church and congregation faithfully in the Vestry, Alter Guild and additional roles for many years.

Caryl was a vibrant woman. She had a smile and an enthusiastic greeting for anyone she met. She was a retail enthusiast and would proudly share with the masses that she had 98 pairs of Lularoe leggings. She rarely left a Bath and Body Works coupon unused, and it is rumored that Temu has her identified as a VIP proportionate to her purchase volume and frequency. Caryl had an irreverent sense of humor and an unbridled sweet tooth. She was fiercely protective of her children, grandchildren, family and a loyal friend.

She is survived by her sister, Vickee Davis Gockley (Bennie); daughter, Jodi Jurries Burke (Jim); son, Brett Jurries (Tammy); daughter, Stormi Kime Vasquez; grandchildren: Ashley Clarke (Kevin), Daisy Shustoff (Evan), Colton Burke (Sophie), Collin Jurries (Jessica), Carson Jurries, Ravyn Vasquez, London Adamson, and great grandchildren: Kaitlyn and Archer Clarke, Dustan and Ruby Shustoff; one niece and five nephews. Caryl is preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Gladys Favager Huffman and Paul Huffman; husband, Thomas J. Mackey and sisters, Debra Davis Armstrong and Julie Ament Mathews.

Memorial donations may be directed to Episcopal Church of the Nativity. Funeral services will be held Nov. 18, 2023, at the Episcopal Church of the Nativity, 731 8th Street, Lewiston. Please sign the online book of memories at mtviewfuneralhome.com.
