Funeral services for Mary Wysong, 91, a resident of rural Palouse, will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Palouse Federated Church, with the Rev. Corey Laughary officiating. Burial will precede the services at the Greenwood Cemetery in Palouse. Mrs. Wysong passed away early Thursday morning, Dec. 18, 2014, at the Whispering Hills Adult Family Home in Pullman.
She was born July 15, 1923, near Potlatch, to Martin A. and Elesa (Tuft) Anderson. She attended the East Cove Country School and the Palouse High School, graduating in 1940. Mary later attended the Kinman Business University in Spokane. Mary worked for Agricultural Extension Services in Pullman for four years.
She married James N. Wysong on April 6, 1944, at Sedalia, Mo., where Mr. Wysong was stationed training with the U.S. Army Air Forces. After the war, the couple moved to Palouse, where they farmed and raised a family.
Mary was a 4-H leader for 13 years when her children were at home. Mary was also an active member of the Palouse Round Table Club and P.E.O. Chapter AE. She was also a member of the Palouse Federated Church.
In 1970, Mary went back to work as a secretary in the history department at Washington State University. In 1988 she retired as the administrative assistant. She had many fond memories of her time with the history department.
Mary and James enjoyed traveling to many places in the U.S., plus Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Hawaii, the Panama Canal and the Caribbean Islands. Mr. Wysong died in 1991.
She enjoyed tending to her many roses and mowing the lawn on her John Deere tractor.
Survivors include one son, Tom Wysong of Pullman; and one daughter, Karen Huber of Palouse. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Memorials may be given to the Palouse Roundtable or to P.E.O. Chapter AE, or to the charity of the donor's choice. Kramer Funeral Home of Palouse is handling the arrangements.
