Angela (Angel) Idette McCormack, 42 years old, was granted her angel wings Thursday, May 17, 2012, at the family home in Lapwai, after a long battle with cancer, surrounded by her family. Angel was born Feb. 17, 1970, to Cheryl (Cheri) Sumpter and the late Robert (Hood) McCormack in Lewiston. Angel was Lapwai's baby; everyone took care of her and loved her.
She attended school at Webster Elementary and Jenifer Junior High, and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1988. She was a member of the Honor Society and participated in varsity basketball and softball for three years. After graduation, she attended Wenatchee Valley Community College on a softball scholarship, where she earned her associate's degree. She later attended Lewis-Clark State College and earned a BS in business administration. Upon completion of college, Angel was employed with the Nez Perce Tribe in the Environmental Restoration Waste Department from April 1995 until July 2011, as data entry clerk and air quality environment specialist. Angel transferred to the federal government as an environmental specialist with the Outreach Information Division Community Tribal Program Groups in North Carolina until her passing.
Angel was an avid horse lover, softball player, traveler and overall outdoorsman. She loved spending time with her pride and joys, her daughters. She was a true animal lover, and passed it on to her daughters. She loved spending time with her family and friends.
Angel is survived by her two daughters, Lorena Teegan and Annella Chare Tucker; her mother, Cheri and Mike Sumpter of Lapwai; her brother, Wesly Sumpter of Atlanta, and brother Harry McCormack of Florida; sisters Mystina and Sarah McCormack of Oregon. Also, her daughters' father W. David Tucker, Pehavee and Jewlien and Tenaya Tucker of California. Uncles Frank and Brenda Taylor, Gary and Nena Taylor, Rick and Terry Taylor, Herb Jackson and Joe (Esky) and Marge McCormack and aunts Loretta and Ron Halfmoon, Veronica and Charlie Taylor, Shirley (Shell) McComack, and Gloria and Tim Hart; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her Baby Boy McCormack-Tucker; her dad, Robert (Hood) McCormack; grandparents Harry (Fox) and Sarah McCormack, and Lorena (Ida) and James (Bug) Taylor; Uncle Mickey McCormack; aunts Vera Tuell and Lynda Jackson; and cousin Larry Gibbs.
Memorial services will be at 7 tonight at the Pi-Nee-Waus Community Center in Lapwai. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Pi-Nee-Waus community Center in Lapwai. The burial will be at the Grant family cemetery in Lapwai. A dinner will follow at the Pi-Nee-Waus Community Center.
