PULLMAN — Some Washington State University employees will be receiving pay increases this year.

Classified staff members will be the first to see raises, according to a news release on Friday by WSU. Their salaries will be increasing 3% effective July 1.

The Washington State Legislature had agreed to provide funds for general wage increase for nonrepresented classified staff, according to the news release.

Phil Weiler, vice president of University Marketing and Communications, said nonrepresented classified staff are hourly state employees including program coordinators, custodians and more. Their wages are determined at the state level.

Increases for academic student employees as a part of the university’s first-ever collective bargaining agreement has also taken place.

The contract between the institution and the Coalition of Academic Student Employees was ratified in late January. The Legislature funded $2.5 million of the $4.9 million requested, according to the news release.

Effective May 1, members received a minimum base wage of $2,318.50 per month, along with other improvements, according to the coalition’s website. A minimum 5% increase to all salaries will be made Aug. 16, and an additional 3% increase to all salary and hourly wage rates will be provided by October 2025.

Faculty and administrative professional employees will be given a raise in October, Weiler said.

The increase hasn’t been determined, he added. University funds will be needed to supplement state funding. The institution will be reviewing its budget to determine amounts, and more information will be released later.
