Whitman earns award for his work with veterans

Chuck Whitman, the commander of Clarkston’s Veterans of Foreign Wars post, is one of five people in Washington who received an Outstanding Service to Veterans award recently.

Whitman earned the Superior Service Award, according to a news release from the Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs.

Whitman and the other award winners were honored during the Auburn Veterans Day Parade and a special luncheon on Nov. 11, according to the news release.

The other winners were Gary Lott, Thurston County, who claimed the Distinguished Service Award; Shawn Durnen, Pierce County, who won the Team Award; and Rep. Mari Leavitt, 28th District, and Sen. Chris Gildon, 25th District, who were named Legislators of the Year.
