Expect more smoke and haze throughout the region and highs reaching near 90 degrees today before tapering off to the low 80s by Sunday. There is a slight chance of showers Sunday, so keep those fingers crossed.

Motors rev for the annual Cruisin' Main Street from 7 to 10 p.m. tonight on Main and D streets in downtown Lewiston as part of Lewiston's Hot August Nights. All types of cars from classics to muscle, kits to restorations, drop tops to hardtops will be on display from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday on Main Street in Lewiston. The autos will line the street from Third to Ninth streets as part of the Hot August Nights Show and Shine.

Thunder on the Snake will get a bit of a quieter start with a 4 to 8 p.m. Show and Shine boat show today at the Clearwater River Casino. Racers from Idaho, Canada and Mexico are expected for the first leg of the race, which will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday from Hells Gate to Bear Bar, and the return leg starting at 11 a.m. The circuit race, leg three, begins at 1:30 p.m. Saturday from the Southway Bridge to Three Mile Island with racers jockeying for position.

SATURDAY

A fundraiser for the Lewiston High School Bengal football team includes the dollar auction beginning at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the Seaport Room at the Red Lion Hotel, 621 21st St. in Lewiston. The event begins with a dinner and social and the auction starts at 6 p.m. All proceeds go toward buying equipment for the varsity and junior varsity teams. The cost for dinner is $15. Tickets can be purchased by calling Bev Richardson at (208) 305-3091.

A hay and feed drive is set for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Del's Feed and Farm Supply to help fire victims in Clearwater County. The goal of the drive is to fill a 40-foot trailer to help families restock winter feed including hay, feed tack, mineral blocks, fly masks, fly spray and other animal-related needs. Cash donations may also be made via PayPal at Killpenrescueproject@yahoo.com and should specify fire victims. Del's is at 1005 Warner Ave., Lewiston.

The Twin Rivers Special Olympics Washington will have a car wash benefit from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Del's Feed and Farm Supply, 1005 Warner Ave., Lewiston. The car wash is by donation, and proceeds will go toward purchasing uniforms, equipment, supplies, travel and team expenses.

New York Times bestselling author Jane Kirkpatrick will lead a presentation and book signing Saturday and Sunday in the region. She will be available for signing from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at And Books Too, 918 Sixth St., in Clarkston, and will give a talk at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Asotin County Library. At 1 p.m. Sunday, Kirkpatrick will be at the Spalding visitor center at the Nez Perce National Historical Park in Spalding. Her book, "The Memory Weaver," tells the story of the daughter of missionaries Henry and Eliza Spalding, Eliza Warren Spalding. The park is about 12 miles east of Lewiston off of U.S. Highway 95 and the event is part of the park's 50th anniversary speaker series.
