ASOTIN - Asotin County officials paved the way Monday for volunteers to help with data input duties at the assessor's office.
The Asotin County commissioners approved a request to hire temporary help through RC Tech, but they also made it clear this will be a good time to train volunteers to do the work when grant funding runs out at the end of the year.
Asotin County Assessor Chris Wood agreed with the plan, saying it will take 3,000 to 4,000 hours to get the work done.
"I'm all for volunteers," she said.
Asotin County now uses a four-year revaluation cycle, but Washington state law is requiring counties to switch to revaluations of properties on a yearly basis, Wood said. Every parcel in the county has to be logged into a new software program as part of the change.
In other county business, the Asotin County Family Aquatic Center now has two insurance providers that will help pay the cost of memberships for qualified seniors, officials said. In addition to the "Silver and Fit" program through Sterling Insurance, the "Silver Sneakers" program through Regence was recently added, said Director Nick Bacon. Seniors can contact their health insurance providers or the aquatic center for more information.
