St. Joseph Regional Medical Center will hold a ribbon cutting, reception and tour for its new Acute Rehabilitation Unit at 3 p.m. on Friday.
The ARU will be staffed by a team of doctors, nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists and other health professionals.
Patients will receive at least three hours of therapy five days a week, under supervision of a doctor specialized in rehabilitation and physical medicine, according to a St. Joe’s news release. Patients will also receive 24/7 nursing care during their stay.
The 10-bed ARU will feature a gym with equipment for rehabilitative therapy. It will also include private rooms for patients recovering from conditions including stroke, brain injury, orthopedic surgery, neurological conditions, amputation and trauma.
“This new service enables our facility to provide a broader range of acute-level, physician-led rehabilitation expertise while avoiding the disruption of transferring a patient to a separate facility,” said St. Joe’s CEO Ed Freysinger.
The ARU will be managed by Lifepoint Rehabilitation.
