SHOUP, Idaho — A 6-mile section of the Salmon River Road near here is expected to be closed until at least Wednesday.
Debris flows caused by storms that passed over central Idaho on Sunday blocked the road between Cove Creek and Colson Creek. Crews are working to clear the debris and reopen the road, according to a news release from the Salmon-Challis National Forest.
The Salmon River Road starts at North Fork and follows the Salmon River as it flows from east to west across the center of the state. But the road, which provides access to boat ramps used by rafters and power boaters, ends at Corn Creek. The river remains largely roadless for the next 80 miles as it continues westerly through the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness before emerging at Vinegar Creek about 25 miles east of Riggins.
