GRANGEVILLE — The search continues for a woman who went missing in the Selway River area and in the separate disappearance of a Maryland man near Orogrande, Idaho.

But Idaho County Sheriff Doug Giddings said Tuesday there have been no leads in either case.

“There are no clues,” Giddings said. “The Air Force is still flying; helicopters are flying, and our guys are out there with dog teams. Everybody’s in there; they’re all looking and haven’t found a thing.”

Searchers are also on foot and on horseback.

Connie Johnson, 76, of Nezperce, was last seen Oct. 2 by members of a Richey Outfitters hunting camp, where she was employed as a cook. The hunters temporarily left the camp located up the Selway River in the Fog Mountain area near Big Rock while Johnson and her border collie, Ace, remained behind. When the hunters returned, the sheriff’s office reported, Johnson and Ace were gone.

The camp is accessible only by horseback or on foot, and there were no vehicles nearby.

Giddings said Johnson was heard by the outfitters on a radio communication Oct. 3, “but they couldn’t understand what she said.”

Johnson, also known as Connie Saylor, is an experienced outdoors-woman and a board member of the Selway-Bitterroot Foundation. She reportedly is familiar with the area where the hunting camp was located.

There also are no leads into the Oct. 5 disappearance of Terrence Woods, 27, of Maryland, who was working on a film crew near the Penman Mine at Orogrande, about 40 miles southeast of Grangeville.

“We don’t have any clues,” Giddings said. “By all reports he took off on his own. He wasn’t lost; he was right there with all the other people. We don’t know what his story is, but we may never know.”
