OROFINO — A jury trial has been scheduled in February for a 27-year-old Orofino man who has been charged with four felonies in connection with an attempted escape and an alleged attack on a Clearwater County jailer.
Clayton M. Farnsworth Sr. is charged with battery on certain law enforcement personnel, aggravated assault by use of a deadly weapon, attempted escape and persistent violator, all felonies. On Friday, trial was set by Second District Judge Adam H. Green for Feb. 21 at the Clearwater County Courthouse. Farnsworth has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
According to a previous report from the Clearwater County Sheriff’s Office, Farnsworth was an inmate at the jail in Orofino when the incident occurred July 10. During an alleged attempted escape, Farnsworth allegedly attacked a deputy, causing injuries to the deputy’s head and body. The deputy was taken by ambulance to Clearwater Valley Health but was released from the hospital later that day.
Farnsworth has been transferred to another detention facility, the sheriff’s office reported, and is being held on a $300,000 bond. The Orofino Police Department led the investigation.
Clearwater County Public Defender Gregory R. Rauch is representing Farnsworth. Clearwater County Prosecutor E. Clayne Tyler is representing the state.
