LAPWAI — The Nez Perce Tribe is continuing its state of emergency from last week’s spring floods and is monitoring efforts to manage flooding problems, according to a Wednesday news release.
An emergency operations team is assessing more than 30 public facilities and structures that are causing concern. The team will look at all sites to determine the level of damage and cost of repair, according to the news release. The assessment will begin in the Stites and Kamiah areas that were most heavily affected by the floods.
Idaho Gov. Brad Little met with Nez Perce Tribal Executive Committee Chairman Shannon Wheeler Sunday, and on Wednesday Wheeler met with U.S. Rep. Russ Fulcher and state Reps. Mike Kingsley and Thyra Stevenson, both of Lewiston, to discuss the assessments and the work underway to care for the communities.
The National Weather Service forecasts heavy rain through the weekend and some snow in areas, but additional flooding is expected to be minimal. There are, however, still concerns about rock slides, mudslides and landslides, the news release said.
