A Lewiston Orchards Irrigation District board member who was recently appointed to a new term resigned this week.

Jim Raffety resigned at the board's meeting Wednesday night after 12 years as one of the LOID board's directors to be closer to family in Post Falls, district Manager Barney Metz said.

Raffety was reappointed to his board of director's position last month. He filed for re-election in September when no one else applied for the position and was reappointed to a new three-year term. Metz said Raffety opted to continue serving while his house was on the market and didn't expect it to sell so quickly.

A subcommittee is soliciting and reviewing applications for a replacement to fill the remainder of Raffety's term, which expires in 2014. Application packets can be picked up at the LOID offices, 1520 Powers Ave. The deadline to submit packets is Nov. 30.

Applicants must reside within LOID District 6, which includes all properties on the east side of Sixth Street and west of Ninth Street within the LOID boundary. Landowners within the District 6 boundary who live within 15 miles of LOID can also apply for the position.

Metz said the board hopes to have the position filled by Dec. 15.
