A Lewiston man was arrested for investigation of possession of a stolen vehicle early Saturday, according to a news release from the Lewiston Police Department.

Richard Shipkowski, 32, was arrested after police allegedly found him sitting in the driver's seat of a 1993 Nissan Maxima reported stolen. An officer recognized the car on the 500 block of Miller Street around 2:40 a.m. Saturday. The car had been reported stolen from the 1800 block of Idaho Street on Monday.

The car's ignition and stereo system had been removed, and the driver's side window had been broken out.

Police said a Dell laptop computer, three tablets and several cellphones, all believed to be stolen, were also recovered from inside the car. Serial numbers had reportedly been removed from the items. The investigation into the possible theft of the electronics is continuing.

Shipkowski is in the Nez Perce County Jail.
