Students pursuing a law degree at Lewis-Clark State College may be able to earn their degree faster because of a new transfer articulation agreement with the University of Idaho.
The agreement, which went into effect Jan. 7, allows LCSC students who are accepted into the UI’s College of Law to take part in the 3+3 Program, according to a news release.
The program allows undergraduate students to earn their bachelor’s degree and a juris doctor in a shorter time frame of six years, instead of seven years.
Once an LCSC student completes their third year of undergraduate study in the pre-law program, they can begin their first year of the law degree program at UI. That allows them to simultaneously fulfill their last year of undergraduate studies and complete their first year of law school, according to the release.
The program provides a course-to-course transfer equivalency guide to help transfer credits from UI to LCSC.
“We at LCSC are very excited about partnering with the University of Idaho to provide this opportunity for students interested in attending law school,” said Chris Riggs, chairman of the Division of Social Sciences at LCSC.
The agreement will allow LCSC pre-law students to participate in some of UI’s student programming, while UI students also will make visits to the LCSC campus to make presentations.
“We’re honored to provide this opportunity for students in northern Idaho and look forward to welcoming LCSC undergraduates to law school,” said Jerrold Long, dean of the U of I College of Law. “In addition to our existing partnerships with the largest universities across the state, the new LCSC partnership extends our 3+3 Program to almost all of the bachelor degree-granting institutions in Idaho.”
LCSC and UI officials will review the agreement annually.
