The Lewiston-Clarkston Valley had a fairly safe Fourth of July with few fire calls.
Clarkston Fire Department reported three fireworks-related calls, including two grass fires and one dumpster fire from improperly disposing of fireworks. There were no medical calls related to fireworks, according to Clarkston Fire Chief Darren White.
Asotin County Fire Department reported six fire calls, including one structure fire at 2323 Billy Meadow of a shed that caught fire from a smoker inside. Four grass fires were reported at Peaslee Avenue and Rankin Hill, 1545 Fifth St., 2567 19th St. and one in the area of 2070 Crestview Drive that threatened an RV. There was also a vehicle fire reported at 1110 Francis St., according to Asotin County.
Lewiston had 26 fireworks calls, according to the Lewiston police log. Of those, 18 were in the Lewiston Orchards. The log had no reports of fires, but there was one report of smoke on the 2600 block of 11th Avenue, which is the area of Sunset Park. There was a fire at the park Monday that resulted in the total loss of an RV and burned some brush by the parking lot.
