BOISE - Two years after his failed bid to unseat Idaho Congressman Raul Labrador, Lewiston native Jimmy Farris is stepping back into the political arena.

Farris, who graduated from Lewiston High School and spent six seasons playing professional football for several NFL teams, announced he's running as a Democrat for the Idaho House next year in District 16, a traditionally Democratic district in Boise.

"This district has had incredible representation over the years," Farris said in a news release. "It's important that we maintain that strong leadership with a representative who will continue to focus on the needs and interests of not only District 16, but the entire state of Idaho."

Farris will seek the House seat currently held by fellow Democrat Grant Burgoyne. Burgoyne will run for the Idaho Senate since incumbent Sen. Les Bock is retiring.
