Genesee School District participating in The Sharing Tree for Latah County
The Sharing Tree for Latah County is now available for those who want to make donations.
The Sharing Tree is set up at the Palouse Empire Mall near the AT&T and VGH stores. Tags for Genesee children are red. Gifts can be returned no later than Dec. 11 to the school office. Gifts must be unwrapped.
The project provides gifts to Genesee children and their families who are having financial struggles. The group also provides items like winter clothing, a new outfit and other gifts for the holidays.
The Sharing Tree is sponsored by the Genesee Education Association.

Areas schools receive grants for CTE programs
Idaho Career Ready Students Council gave $19 million in grants, including two to the Whitepine Joint School District and the Orofino Joint School District.
The Whitepine Joint School District received $47,871 to fund multi-program equipment upgrades at Deary School. Orofino Joint School District was given $528,100 for the natural resources and forestry pathway at Orofino Junior Senior High School and Timberline Schools, according to a news release from the Idaho State Department of Education.
The Idaho Career Ready Students Council is led by Superintendent of Public Instruction Debbie Critchfield and is made up of members from around Idaho. The council evaluates programs applications from local education agencies.
Lewiston High School planning fruit fundraiser for the music department
Orders for the Lewiston High School’s annual fruit fundraiser need to be returned Dec. 12.
The music department is selling California oranges and Texas Rio star grapefruit/ Twenty-pound boxes can be purchased for $40 and 10-pound bags can be purchased for $20. A combo box of both fruits are also available.

Local schools get grant funds for kitchen equipment
The Idaho Department of Education has awarded grant money to the Orofino School District and the Northwest Children’s Home for kitchen equipment.
The Orofino School District received $16,680 for a counterbalanced walkie reach truck. Northwest Children’s Home received $7,218 for a gas oven, according to a news release from the Idaho Department of Education.
The Idaho Department of Education funded the federal grants through the Child Nutrition Program so schools could purchase new equipment for their lunch and breakfast programs. The U.S. Department of Agriculture Equipment Assistance Grant also helped with funding.
