A Hot Shot Espresso with both inside and outdoor seating could become a new tenant of Southgate Plaza in the Lewiston Orchards.
Landmark Property Group has listed the business as the tenant on a building permit application for a 2,600-square-foot structure that has a drive-through window, said Katie Hollingshead, city of Lewiston building permit representative.
Landmark Property Group is a company of Mark Alexander, the New York state developer who owns the 10-acre Southgate Plaza off of Bryden Avenue.
The format on Landmark Property Group’s plans differs from Hot Shot Espresso’s existing Lewiston locations, which are drive-through only in downtown Lewiston, along Bryden Avenue and also Thain Road.
Emily Holzer, an owner of Hot Shots, said she will share more about her approach for the expansion at a later date.
Construction crews and heavy equipment have been doing work on the site in recent days, but the only building permit that has been issued at this stage is for about 100 parking spaces. Some will be in a gravel and dirt area where rental houses were before they were demolished.
“There are empty spaces up there that eventually might get filled,” Hollingshead said.
Back in 2015 when Alexander acquired the property, he talked about recruiting a national, name-brand restaurant chain, but so far that hasn’t happened.
Alexander was not available for comment for this story.
He has completed significant improvements to the site, such as installing new facades as well as upgrading electrical systems. An apartment complex was added on the east side of the property. Domino’s Pizza, Smart Fitness of the Lewis Clark Valley and Skelton’s Carpet One Floor & Home have joined Maximum Image Salon and Tiny Toes Play and Learn Center in the complex.
Southgate Plaza isn’t the only Lewiston property that Alexander owns. Most of his other holdings are downtown and include Towne Square Mall and the Lewis-Clark Hotel.
