These events have raised more than $1 million since their inception to support cancer care in the region. The money has gone to vital technology and services, as well as to programs such as Light a Candle and Bosom Buddies that support early screening and reduce some of the costs associated with a cancer diagnosis.

Gritman’s 2023-25 Community Health Needs Assessment reports cancer as the leading cause of death in Latah County, a higher rate than the rest of Idaho. Money raised from both events helps fund Gritman Foundation programs including Bosom Buddies, which provides free screening mammograms to Latah County women who are unable to pay for the screening on their own; Cancer Care Fund, which assists patients on a need-by-need basis; and Light a Candle, designed to ease some of he financial burdens that come with facing cancer through services such as housekeeping, grocery assistance, massage therapy, gas cards and more.

The Pink Tea events are in their 21st year and were promoted by former Idaho First Lady Patricia Kempthorne, who spread awareness about the benefits of cancer screenings to early detection. The Gritman Foundation’s annual gathering is the largest continual Pink Tea event in Idaho.
