Visitation for George Alden Thompson, 82, and his wife, Lola Elizabeth Thompson, 83, will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at Merchant Funeral Home at Clarkston. The funeral for both will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Clarkston Seventh Day Adventist Church. The Rev. Alden Thompson of College Place, Wash., will officiate.

The Thompsons died Thursday in an automobile accident near Enterprise, Ore. He was a retired longtime Clarkston physician, and she had been a teacher and financial officer for her husband's practice and a homemaker.

He was born Oct. 24, 1914, at Buckley, Wash., to Walter and Edith Prather Thompson. Raised in Washington, he graduated from Yakima Valley Academy in 1932. He received a bachelor's degree from Pacific Union College at Angwin, Calif., in 1936. He taught chemistry and sciences at LaSierra College at Riverside, Calif., for six years, and also attended Redlands University.

He and Lola Lukens were married May 24, 1936, at Vallejo, Calif.

In the early 1940s they went to Medellin, Colombia, as missionaries for three years. There, he taught biology, science and Bible classes. They returned to California in 1947, and he entered medical school at Loma Linda (Calif.) University. He graduated in 1952. In 1953 he began a family practice in Clarkston. In 1979 he received a master's degree in public health from Loma Linda University. He retired in 1986.

He was on the staff of Tri-State Memorial Hospital at Clarkston for many years and had served as its chief of staff. Thompson was a member of the Clarkston Rotary Club and Toastmasters. He was director of the Clarkston Community Orchestra for many years and was on the board of the Washington-Idaho Symphony. For many years, he was an elder and teacher at the Clarkston SDA Church. He was also a musician.

She was born July 10, 1913, at St. Helena, Calif., to Lloyd and Jenny Larsen Lukens. She attended Lodi (Calif.) Academy and graduated in 1932. In 1934 she received an associate's degree from Pacific Union College at Angwin, Calif. She taught elementary school at Vallejo, Calif., and then later taught home economics at La Sierra, Calif.

After they moved to Clarkston in 1953, she taught private classes in sewing and tailoring, and was the financial officer for her husband's practice. She was a homemaker for many years.

She was a teacher and leader at the Clarkston SDA Church, and enjoyed homemaking and being with her grandchildren.

As a couple, they are survived by two daughters, Georgene Bond of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Lorene Berger of Tigard, Ore.; two sons, Alden Thompson of College Place, Wash., and Albert Thompson of Lincoln City, Ore.; and 11 grandchildren.

He is also survived by three sisters, Phyllis MacLafferty of National City, Calif., Virginia Yelland of Olympia, Wash., and Enid Van Asperen of Paradise, Calif.; and one brother, Gordon Thompson of Loma Linda, Calif.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Helen Rowell, Violet Montanya and Iris Schnepper.

She is also survived by one sister, Dorothy Hart of Corvallis, Ore.; and one brother, Melvin Lukens of Paradise, Calif.
