ASOTIN — A 43-year-old Spokane transient charged with first-degree child rape and first-degree incest entered “not guilty” pleas Monday in Asotin County Superior Court.

Grant V. Yeaman, a former Clarkston resident, remains in custody of the Asotin County Jail on a $200,000 bond. His next court appearance is Oct. 2 for an omnibus hearing and trial setting.

Yeaman is facing six counts of first-degree child rape, a Class A felony, and six counts of first-degree incest, a Class B felony, for alleged incidents that occurred between April 6 and Oct. 21, 2022, in Asotin County. The Class A felonies carry a maximum penalty of life in prison and fines of $50,000 on each count.

According to court documents, the alleged victim was under the age of 12 when the incidents took place. Yeaman reportedly told police he wasn’t in the area when the alleged crimes were committed.

Yeaman is a Level III sex offender with a long criminal history, including sex offenses with child victims, failure to comply with court orders and probation violations, according to the probable-cause affidavit.

He is represented by public defender John Perry, of Spokane. Prosecutor Curt Liedkie is handling the case on behalf of the state.
