Project to install two roundabouts near west end of Southway Bridge will disrupt traffic for months

Motorists using State Route 129 between Clarkston and Asotin will begin seeing some changes to their regular commute when the work week begins.

The Fleshman Way interchange project near the Southway Bridge is slated to start Monday and continue throughout the summer.

Left turns for the westside ramp heading from Clarkston onto the Southway Bridge to Lewiston will be closed and detours will be clearly marked.

In addition, east and west traffic on Fleshman Way from the bridge to Ashley Drive and Eighth Street will be reduced to one lane in each direction, but will remain open for the entirety of the project.

Once completed, the new interchange will feature two roundabouts on the heavily used road linking Clarkston and Asotin. The goal is to calm traffic, eliminate stopping and left-turn movements, and provide safe merges for vehicles entering and exiting between Fleshman Way and State Route 129.

The highway will remain open to north and south traffic from Clarkston to Asotin until May 30th.

However, after the Memorial Day weekend, a portion of the highway near the bridge will be closed for all of June and most of July. Traffic will be routed along 13th Street and Highland Avenue during the closure.

Project updates and road closures will be shared throughout the duration of the project, but traffic delays and detours should be expected, officials said.

Questions regarding this road work can be directed to the Asotin County Public Works Department at (509) 243-2074.
