The city of Lewiston on Tuesday terminated its order of local disaster emergency that was imposed Jan. 18, the day one of its reservoirs failed and sent 3.3 million gallons of water cascading through streets and buildings.
The rupture prompted the city to issue a boil water order for about 3,800 of 6,000 city water users for about one week until it was able to reroute water around the broken reservoir.
The city announced the termination of the order in an email Tuesday that included a copy of the order signed by Mayor Dan Johnson.
His decision followed “careful deliberation” with the incident command team and the city’s emergency management staff, Johnson said in a text.
“The emergency declaration served as an administrative function to engage our county and state partners in responding to the disaster for the purpose of recovering some of the costs,” he said. “The extent of those costs and recovery are not known at this time.”
