SNOHOMISH, Wash. — Investigators now say four people died in a fiery plane crash Friday northeast of Seattle between Snohomish and Monroe that temporarily closed U.S Hwy 2.
While two people were reported dead by emergency first responders Friday, authorities Saturday confirmed four people died in the crash, The Seattle Times reported.
Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Courtney O’Keefe told the newspaper that additional examination of the wreckage with help from the county Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the four deaths.
The names of the people who died haven’t been released. Authorities have said their identities would be released later by the county Medical Examiner’s Office.
The Federal Aviation Administration said the single-engine Textron 208B crashed in a field at around 9:30 a.m. Friday. The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board were at the scene Friday afternoon. The NTSB is investigating.
The first people at the scene of the crash tried to put the fire out using handheld fire extinguishers, but were unsuccessful because of the “large volume of fire,” Snohomish Fire District 4 said Friday. Officials said the plane was difficult to access because of the “terrain, vegetation and irrigation canals.”
