COLFAX - A corrections deputy at the Whitman County Jail was injured after an alleged attack by an inmate at the jail.

The inmate, Kerry E. Morrison, is accused of punching the officer in the face multiple times during a meal Monday at the maximum security unit, according to a news release from Whitman County Jail Commander Scotty Anderson and Whitman County Sheriff Brett Myers.

Morrison, who is currently being held in jail on a $25,000 bond on charges of leading police on a high-speed pursuit Feb. 18, was segregated from other inmates at the jail and awaits administrative action. The alleged assault is considered a Class C felony and charges have been forwarded to the Whitman County Prosecutor's Office.
