Clarkston police search for suspect who reportedly fled scene

Brad W. Gary of the Tribune

Police in Clarkston are investigating reports a teen was robbed at gunpoint, the third such attempt in the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley this month.

No injuries were reported, and Police Chief Joel Hastings said the 17-year-old boy did not have any money to give when he was reportedly confronted late Wednesday night. Police are trying to identify the alleged robber.

The boy was walking in the area of Chestnut and Eighth streets at about 11 p.m. when police said an unknown man came up from behind and pointed a pistol at him. Hastings said the teen held open his wallet to show it was empty and the man took off running north on Eighth Street.

The boy, who was not immediately identified, first reported the robbery to his mother, who in turn called Clarkston Police at about 11:30 p.m.

"Officers searched the area and did not locate anybody that matched the description," Hastings said.

Police are looking for someone about 5-feet-11 inches tall and wearing a black, hooded sweatshirt.

The incident remains under investigation. Hasting said Thursday Detective Dan Combs was attempting to conduct a more thorough interview with the teen.

Wednesday's robbery came within three weeks of reported robbery attempts in Lewiston and Asotin.

Joshua P. Hieronymus and Nathaniel R. Shafer, both 27, allegedly robbed a man and his pregnant girlfriend at gunpoint at an Asotin trailer Aug. 1. Both men face charges including first-degree burglary, two counts of kidnapping and two counts of robbery in Asotin County in that incident.

Levi D. Linton, 17, and 18-year-old Kaleb J. Farmer were arrested after Lewiston police allege they used a pistol-grip .410 shotgun in attempts to rob a man and woman walking in the area of Sixth Street and Seventh Avenue on Aug. 5. Linton, of Clarkston, faces charges of robbery and attempted robbery in Lewiston's 2nd District Court stemming from the incident. Farmer is charged with conspiracy to commit robbery and aiding and abetting robbery.
