The Lewiston School District is planning two events this week — one that will result in an immediate change and one that represents a coming development.
The Bengal Monument, an oversized sculpture created by 1984 Lewiston High graduate Shayne Watkins, will be unveiled Thursday afternoon at Lewiston High School in the Orchards.
The sculpture was made possible by a donation from Dwayne J. Clark, a 1977 Lewiston High graduate. Clark is the founder, chairman and CEO of Aegis Living, and is also the founder of True Productions, which has released 13 documentaries. He is also a bestselling author and playwright and has been recognized as Entrepreneur of the Year and one of Seattle’s Most Powerful People, among many other accolades, according to a news release from the Lewiston School District.
Clark will speak to students at an assembly prior to the unveiling. The sculpture will then be uncovered outside the high school. School will be in session, so it won’t be a public event.
The school district is also planning a groundbreaking at 10 a.m. Saturday, during which the next phase of the high school development will be announced. A field for football, track and soccer will be the next development, located east of the high school’s gym.
The public is invited to the Saturday groundbreaking. Those who attend are advised to park in the east parking lot.
After that project is completed, the next phase will include baseball and softball facilities and a practice soccer field.
