Whitman County's third legal marijuana farm has been approved for a rural location north of St. John and about 30 miles northwest of Colfax.

DP Farms has received permission to grow between 2,000 and 10,000 square feet of cannabis under a Tier 2 license, according to the Washington State Liquor Control Board.

The partners in DP Farms include Patrick Gordon, 60, who lives at the business address of DP Farms. That's also the home of the project's other partner, Drew Gordon, 22, according to documents obtained through a records request to the Washington State Liquor Control Board.

The younger Gordon declined to be interviewed for this story. Attempts to reach the older Gordon were not successful. State records don't indicate if or how the Gordons are related.

Patrick Gordon has been employed by Gordon Farms, which operates from the same location as DP Farms, since 1980 and has been president since 2005, according to records obtained from the state.

Drew Gordon attended Central Valley High School in Spokane Valley, Wash., before he started going to Washington State University in Pullman. He finished there in 2014. He has worked as a field specialist since 2013 at Gordon Farms.

So far, all of the marijuana farms that have been given the go-ahead in Whitman County are in the Tier 2 category. The first was RL Farms, which is located just west of Colfax off State Route 26.

The second is Jvard near Thornton along U.S. Highway 195, within sight of a main route between Lewiston and Spokane. That business, which started as a collection of shipping containers, has been in the spotlight for months because of its visibility.

Operators of those two farms also declined requests for interviews from the Tribune.
