Washington State University football player Randy Gray crouches in the Cougars’ iconic tunnel leading onto the field of play in Martin Stadium on the Pullman campus in this Jeff A. Taylor photo published in the Sports section of the Oct. 26, 1989, Lewiston Tribune. The accompanying story by Tribune sports reporter Dale Grummert told of Gray’s hopes to play for UCLA in his home state of California, but his recruiting visit there ended with no offer of a scholarship. He did have a scholarship offer from WSU, so that’s how the senior starting defensive end came to play for the Cougars, this season under head coach Mike Price. “I’m so happy I came here (to WSU). I’ve had the greatest time of my life here ... ,” Gray said. “For a college, you can’t get much better than here.” Readers who would like to share their historical photos (20 years or older) from throughout the region may do so by emailing them to blasts@lmtribune.com or submitting them to: Blast from the Past, P.O.
