Idaho State Police Cpl. Ray Thornton, of Lewiston, keeps an eye on motorists in this Barry Kough photo published in the Dec. 19, 1975, Lewiston Tribune. The ISP had recently added two radar units (one of which is visible on the car’s dash) that can be used while the patrol car is moving, according to an accompanying story. “The older, hand-held radar units had to be used while the patrol car was sitting still. The new units allow patrolmen to check speeds of motorists without stopping the patrol car, Lt. E.L. Newell said.” Readers who would like to share their historical photos (20 years or older) from throughout the region may do so by emailing them to blasts@lmtribune.com or submitting them to: Blast from the Past, P.O.
