The mayor of Lapwai was the victim of a fatal crash that occurred near the south entrance of the Clearwater River Casino & Lodge Monday afternoon.

Mayor Iona "Ruth" McConville, 67, of Lapwai, died as a result of her injuries at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston, according to the Idaho State Police.

At about 12:30 p.m., McConville was driving a white 2000 Oldsmobile Alero when she attempted to make a left hand turn from the south entrance of the casino to go southbound onto U.S. Highway 95.

McConville failed to yield to a tan 1998 Toyota Sienna van driven by Ivan L. Trautman, 28, of Troy. That vehicle, traveling northbound on the highway, struck McConville’s vehicle on the driver’s side, according to state police.

A statement from the city of Lapwai said city hall will be closed tomorrow in honor of McConville.  It will reopen Wednesday.

“The city wishes to extend its condolences to the mayor’s family and many friends, colleagues and staff, in this time of loss,” the statement said.

Jordann R. Ducommun, 26, of Princeton, and two juveniles, who were passengers in Trautman’s vehicle were treated at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.

McConville’s next of kin have been notified, state police said.
