The season’s last load of Lewiston Orchards cherries arrived at the Producers Association, Inc., packing plant yesterday as apricots and Juliaetta cherries were being harvested in about equal volume while green pea harvesting continued on a big scale and wheat growers marked time.

E. A. White, manager of the Producers plant, said crews worked steadily on both fruit sorting lines packing about 1,200 to 1,400 crates each of cherries and apricots until a shortage of boxes forced temporary suspension of work at about 4 yesterday afternoon. Packing will continue at the plant throughout today.

The apricots being harvested at Silcott and in increasing volume at Clarkston Heights are of good quality, and growers have reported that yield is unusually heavy, Mr. White said. Extremely little of the fruit received so far has been afflicted with fungus, he added.

Officials at the Smith Frozen Foods processing plant reported that harvesting of green peas continued at a rapid pace, with both canning and quick-freezing equipment being utilized, and that processing of apricots was maintained at a steady level with cherry work almost finished.

Representatives of the three Lewiston grain warehouses said they knew of no new wheat growers who started harvest operations during the day but said that several ranchers are expected to begin harvest work Monday.
