Three businesses selling small, portable buildings have opened in north central Idaho.

One is in Lewiston and is called Clydesdale Portable Buildings. It is located at 2233 Second Ave. N. A second is at 1000 N. Main St. in Moscow and is called Princeton Portable Buildings. A third is MC Concepts at 11250 U.S. Highway 12 in Orofino.

The ventures have separate owners, but are all dealers for Premier Portable Buildings, a national company that does its manufacturing for this area in Princeton.

Outbuildings used for storage and shops represent the majority of sales in Lewiston and Moscow. One model features a garage door and costs $5,490 for 240 square feet - the smallest size made. Another has barn-style double doors framed by windows on either side. It goes for $2,315 for 96 square feet, also the smallest size.

A few of the models look like small homes with windows and porches. They are the most popular choices in Orofino, said Joni Potratz, manager of MC Concepts.

They range in price from $2,700 to $13,500 depending on the size and features. Delivery to locations within 50 miles of the dealerships is included in the prices.

The rules regarding how the prefabricated cabins need to be set up for primary or secondary dwellings are governed by building departments in cities and counties.

Rylan Koehn, who owns Princeton Portable Buildings and constructs them in Princeton, advises his customers to check with the jurisdiction where they're placing the structures so they understand what the requirements are.

The small buildings can also be used as bunkhouses for extra guests to extend space at existing cabins, said Kelsey Kunkel, owner of Clydesdale Portable Buildings. "It's kind of like the RV concept only it's moved less often."

The hours of Clydesdale Portable Buildings are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and its telephone number is (208) 717-1888. Princeton Portable Buildings is open from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday

through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Its telephone number is (208) 874-7412. MC Concepts is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Its telephone number is (208) 827-6870.
