Blast from the Past / 1992: Lewiston teacher returns from space camp
Margaret Duncan, of Lewiston, wears her space flight suit and displays her souvenirs in this Butch Ireland photo published in the Aug. 20, 1992, Lewiston Tribune. As a reward for being named Idaho's teacher of the year, the sixth-grade teacher at McGhee Elementary School in Lewiston was awarded a trip to space camp in Huntsville, Ala. According to the accompanying story by reporter Elaine Williams, Duncan said the most exciting activities at camp were the simulated space missions. She served as flight director on one "mission" and as a shuttle scientist on another. The teachers also got to walk inside a one-sixth gravity chamber which simulates the environment on the moon. "You could just bounce along. ... I loved that," Duncan said.
