William Dunn is shown at work with his butcher knife at his Clarkston store in this photo published in the Business section of the June 12, 1977, Lewiston Tribune. The accompanying story reported that Dunn had sold the Payless Meat Market inside the Payless Grocery at Fourth and Diagonal streets in Clarkston. Dunn had began working in the market before World War II when it was co-owned by his stepfather, and after serving in the U.S. Marine Corps during the war, he returned to Clarkston to purchase the market, and had operated it since. In retirement, Dunn said among his plans were to “visit my wheat ranch in Canada and watch the harvest,” saying he had never seen the harvest on his ranch near Kilam, Alberta.
