Merrill Moore, of Pullman, will celebrate his 106th birthday Tuesday.
He was born Aug. 22, 1917, in Gering, Neb., to Ernest and Mabel Moore.
He and Barbara Schuman were married May 30, 1940, in Las Vegas.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army from 1945-46, and then settled in California. There, he was employed by several companies over the years, including Douglas Aircraft, Lockheed Aircraft and Howmet Corp., responsible for shipping and receiving military property.
In 1974, the couple moved to Pullman where he worked as a painter for Washington State University for about 10 years before retiring.
His wife died in 1993.
Building was a hobby he particularly enjoyed, and he made beautiful maple furniture for his home, as well as adding rooms, fences and garages, among other improvements. He loved his home and took care of it beautifully. He created a beautiful yard, and he enjoyed camping in the Northwest. His dogs were a big part of his life and family.
He has one son, one daughter, five grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. One son died in 2009.
