The Lewiston couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a family trip to Washington, D.C.
Steve Wicks and Cathy Cannon were married Aug. 18, 1972, at the First Baptist Church in Lewiston.
The couple moved to San Diego, where Steve completed the last four months of his service in the U.S. Navy.
They returned to Lewiston, where Steve entered the welding program at Lewis-Clark State College and Cathy went to work for Reed’s Hardware. Steve worked as a carpenter for Duane St. Marie, for the Camas Prairie Railroad, Weldcraft jet boats and Clearwater Paper.
Cathy was a stay-at-home mom until their children were in school. She spent many hours volunteering with the PTA and various activities at Camelot Elementary School. After racking up what seemed like a lot of hours, Steve asked her when the principal was going to volunteer at their house. It did pay off, as she was hired for a job at Camelot. Her love for computers made it possible to work as a Lewiston School District computer repair person for 16 years.
Upon their retirement, Steve and Cathy built a cabin near Deary, and they love spending as much time there as they can.
The couple have three children — Amy Wicks, Molly Weaver and Robert Wicks — and six grandchildren.
