The 14th annual Three Rivers Grazing Conference is planned Jan. 9 in the Williams Conference Center on the campus of Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston.

The conference, which opens at 8 a.m., features a trade show followed by presentations which begin at 9 a.m.

The morning session includes:

  • "Grazing to Reduce Fire Hazard and Grazing Management after a Fire" by Kip Hudson of Washington State University Extension
  • "Trace Mineral Status of Range and Pasture Forages" by Jim Sprinkle, University of Idaho Extension beef specialist
  • "Competitive Grass Species for Dryland Grazing" by Steve Fransen of WSU Extension

The afternoon session includes:

  • "Nutrition Balancer Information for Forage Grazing" by Bendan Brazee of the Natural Resources Conservation Service
  • The Producer's Perspective panel, which will include John and Betty Mobbs from the Lazy JM Ranch talking about their grass fed beef program. Josh Jones will also be on the panel discussing his experiences with grazing cover crops to enhance cereal crop production.

Cost is $15 for those who register by Dec. 29, and $20 for those who register at the door. Registration includes lunch, which will be served at noon. Those wishing to register in advance may call the Idaho County National Resources Conservation Serivce office at (208) 983-1046.
