UPDATE: Idaho State Police have identified the man who shot a Nez Perce Tribal Officer Wednesday as 36-year-old Daniel “Danny” Cook Jr. 

Cook reportedly drove to off-duty officer Josh Rigney’s home on the 3500 block of 11th Street and shot Rigney twice. 

Rigney was taken to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. He was reported in fair condition Thursday. 

Lewiston police chased Cook, who reportedly shot at officers while fleeing in his vehicle. Four officers stopped Cook at 13th Street and Burrell Avenue, where they shot him multiple times. Cook was hospitalized but later died. No Lewiston officers were injured in the shooting. 

The four officers have been placed on leave while the investigation continues.

The Nez Perce Tribal Police officer shot by a suspect at the officer's home is listed in fair condition today at a local hospital.

Officer Josh Rigney was confronted by a man at Rigney's home Wednesday on the 3500 block of 11th Street in the Lewiston Orchards and the man shot Rigney twice. He was taken to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. A house supervisor said Rigney was in fair condition this morning.

The unidentified suspect was chased by Lewiston police across the Orchards and stopped near the Nez Perce County Fairgrounds where three Lewiston officers traded gunfire with the suspect. The man was shot multiple times and taken to the hospital where he later died. No Lewiston officers were injured.

The man reportedly shot at officers while being chased, creating multiple crime scenes. The Idaho State Police, Latah County Sheriff's Office and Moscow Police Department are investigating the officer-involved shooting. The FBI has taken over investigating the shooting incident at Rigney's home.
