Lewis-Clark Twins 16-21, Northern Lakes Mountaineers 1-2

RATHDRUM, Idaho — The visiting Lewis-Clark Twins routed the Northern Lakes Mountaineers to win each game of a league doubleheader at Lakeland High School in five innings via mercy rule.

The floodgates opened for the Twins after they racked up 11 runs in the fourth inning of Game 1, and they did not let up for the remainder of the encounter, prevailing by scores of 16-1 and 21-2.

“We just had a discussion about us waking up after that long bus trip,” said Lewis-Clark coach Kevin Maurer, whose team improved to 14-8 on the season. “We weren’t playing the baseball that we just came off of playing, and we needed to change our approach at the plate. After that our guys did a tremendous job of locking in at the batter’s box and doing what they’re capable of doing.”

Coy Stout had four hits in the first game and two in the second for a team-high total of six on the day. The Twins combined for 34 hits in all.

“Every guy who stepped to the plate got a base hit today,” noted Maurer.
