Asotin Co. notches a win

The Asotin County Little League 10U All-Star team made its first state tournament appearance in 10 years, winning its opening contest but falling narrowly in two subsequent games on July 6-8 at Gig Harbor, Wash.

The All-Stars rallied from a three-run deficit to defeat Fort Vancouver 5-4 on Day 1, then fell 16-13 to Burlington-Edison in eight innings on Day 2 and came out on the wrong end of a high-scoring seventh inning against Northeast Seattle to be eliminated 9-6 on Day 3.

“We are so proud of these boys,” said coach Denetta Nugen. “We were down in every game we played and they never gave up. We fought back and took the lead in every game.”
