Susan Marie Rainwater, age 66, mother, grandmother, businesswoman and Arabian horse breeder, died Thursday, Aug. 9, 2018, after being struck by a hit-and-run driver while bicycling on State Highway 7 near her country home at Eatonville, Wash.
Susan Marie was born to Robert O. Hagbom and Patricia Wygant Hagbom on Feb. 27, 1952, in Salem, Ore. Later divorced, her mother relocated to Lewiston, where Susan received her early schooling and began high school. She was the granddaughter of Dr. E. M. and Marguerite Wygant and stepdaughter of Todd Maddock. She graduated from Lakes High School in Lakewood, Wash., and spent her life in the Puget Sound area. After her marriage to Al Rainwater, the couple owned and managed an independent insurance agency, and bred and showed Arabian horses at their Winner’s Circle Farm.
Preceding Susan in death are her parents and grandparents. Surviving her are husband Al Rainwater of Eatonville; daughter Leah (husband Levi) Miller; grandchildren Colton and Clara; also sister Margaret Ann Dulin of Eatonville; stepbrother Stan Maddock of Lewiston; stepsister Lezlie McLeod of Clarkston; and stepfather Todd Maddock of Spokane.
Memorial services will be determined at a later date.
