Mr. Braun also was a consummate teacher for 31 years at Colfax High School. His students frequently would prompt him to start a discussion about his other passion, the outdoors and hunting. He cooperated because he believed that any time a classroom of students became engaged with each other a lesson could be taught.

Mr. Braun's contribution to the community also included sitting on the city council, volunteering for local track meets and driving school bus. Up until the time of his death, he continued his passion to learn and never forgot that even teachers must always strive to be students as well.

A service is open to the public and is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at Bruning Funeral Home, with a reception to follow at 2:15 p.m. at the Colfax golf course. Please direct all gifts to the Humane Society; Whitman County Hospital; or Whitman County Hospice.

Bruning Funeral Home is caring for the family. Online condolences can be made at bruningfuneralhome.com.
